The pre-dawn air is moist and cool, giving the trail that woodsy, fresh smell only morning can bring. Your gaze turns eastward. Sunrise. Fiery ribbons of sunlight meander across the darkened sky, coaxing the first glimpse of daylight out of its peaceful slumber. This is what makes the first 18 hours in the saddle so worthwhile, you think as you continue to ride on. You pause just briefly to shut off your lights as dawn breaks; this is a race, after all.
Your friends and family think you're nuts for participating in such a strange event. A 24-hour race? You mean you ride your mountain bike for 24 hours straight? Absolutely. Just you and your bike for 24 hours…what's not to like? Of course, solo 24-hour racing isn't for everyone. You need to have excellent fitness, exceptional drive, a dedicated support crew, and unequalled equipment. It's not all about the bike, but having a good bike sure helps. Your thoughts turn to your own bike; if it wasn't so damn much fun to ride, it would have been hard to get though the first 12 hours.
It climbs like a hardtail in spite of the fact that it has 5 inches of rear travel, yet it descends like a bike having much more travel than that. It's light and comfortable. And after 18 hours riding it, you'd know. It's 6 a.m.. You can take comfort in knowing that you've only got 6 hours left until your support crew meets you at the finish line with beers in hand. Enjoy the ride.
Just like a finely-tuned luxury sedan, the Sonix is the perfect blend of race worthy performance and hedonistic comfort. No compromises made nor wanted. With 120mm of patent-pending Virtual Link suspension, you've got the perfect bike whether you choose to ride just a couple of miles or a couple hundred miles.
