Nic got his start in racing BMX from his father, Donavon Long, who disliked the drama of youth team sports and was himself a BMXer. And so it didn't take long for Nic to pick up a bike and start racing motos. And not long after that, Nic's younger sister would also pick up a bike and join her dad and brother at the track. In 2010, Nic claimed his first World Cup win, upsetting Olympic gold medalist, Maris Strombergs, on his way to first place. Nic also scored the national title for men's elite BMX racing earlier the same year. Since then Nic has been living his dream, competing on the highest level of BMX racing all around the world. In 2012, Nic competed in the London Olympics finishing 17th and in 2012, Nic finished 4th at the 2016 Olympics in Rio Brazil.
