Coming to the end of my second season for a total of 6,500 km. My comments are as follows:
Generally: a nice bike looks good, handles well, very heavy. Battery life seems good it's dependant on how much assist you require. The 350W baking rear motor gives enough power to overcome headwind or help you up steep inclines. Using zero assist the bike is very cumbersome.
Specifics: The Kenda tyres are useless I was getting flats every day. I changed them to Michelin Wild AM and these are fantastic. I also have a winter set with metal studs.
The pedals are dangerous, when wet your feet slip off, I changed my pedals to Rockbros with metal studs, these are great and eliminate slippage completely.
I carry tools spares and additional cloths in a Blackburn crossbar bag and paniers both fit very well. I fitted additional rear and much needed front lighting.
Complaints/Worries: The charger doesn't connect very well, you have to fiddle with it to make sure the light comes on so it's charging. I am worried about the battery, when it comes time for a new one where do I get It? Because it's specifically shaped to fit the frame? The Desolation website doesn't help in this area.
I was skeptical at first on investing in an e bike. Now that i have had several outings on my bike it was a wise investment. Being an elderly person my capabilities are limited to riding up steep grades. with the assist mode i easily conquer any grade of roadway. it is nice to just ride the bike to town and pick up a few groceries and refreshments if needed. With the extra weight conquering hills is a breeze. I also like the fact this bike comes complete with fenders, head light and rear brake light. having and odometer etc. is great. the only add on was a mirror and saddle bags/carrier.
i would highly recommend this brand of e bike to anyone looking at getting into e bike riding.
Cheers
